Laurie Harmon
Psy.D. Doctor of Clinical Psychology
I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland with over 24 years of treatment experience. I have benefited from interdisciplinary training and clinical practice across diverse mental health settings. I am also an experienced psychodiagnostician with extensive practice providing comprehensive psychological evaluations for both diagnostic and informed treatment planning, as well as the identification and remediation of cognitive/learning issues, personality disorders, social/emotional difficulties, posttraumatic stress, substance abuse, disability determination, immigration status, and gender reassignment assessment/advocacy. I provide consultation with other professionals across multiple settings, including on-site academic/school conferences.
True self-discovery begins where your comfort zone ends. -Adam Brown
My overriding approach to psychotherapy with all of my clients is to provide a comfortable, emotionally safe, and relaxed atmosphere in which you or your family member(s) will be able to speak openly and vulnerably without the fear of judgment or shame. With consistent, empathic validation, a mutual exchange of ideas, and a focus on each client’s individual strengths, it is my hope that every client will gain greater insight and a deeper personal understanding of themselves in an effort to develop alternative decision-making skills and coping strategies that may serve their needs more effectively as life circumstances and self-narratives continue to evolve and develop.
As a clinician, I feel deeply grateful and privileged to be a witness to my client’s life story and shared vulnerability. As a participant in your process of self-discovery and healing respect for your confidentiality, safety, integrity, and a deep dedication to your needs are my utmost priority. Please feel free at all times throughout this process to ask questions or share any concerns you may have. Outside of my professional life, I am a self-described “lover of life-long learning.” I take as many opportunities as I can afford, to continue my education and pursuit of knowledge both in and outside of traditional settings. I routinely attend workshops, conferences, and programs that are both professionally and interest-based. Finally, in addition to “psychologist,” my current roles include mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and dog owner. I look forward to working with you!
